Who are United Methodists?
A grace-filled people who believe in putting faith and love into action

The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. A United Methodist is someone who joins in that mission by putting faith and love into action. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing that love. We believe that Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of God's love--showing us the fullness of God's care through Jesus' life, teachings, death, and resurrection.

At St. Luke, we strive to live what Jesus taught and modeled: loving God with our whole being and loving our neighbor as ourselves. This means building relationships with God and each other that are rooted in faithfulness, generosity, openness, and passion.

We are a United Methodist Church committed to grace--the endless love and forgiveness of God offered to us without price. We walk in grace, err on the side of grace, live into grace, and allow it to transform our hearts so that they become more like God's heart. This same grace makes us a people who live into second chances, who embrace humility, as we walk in faith together. Grounded in this grace, we are a people of hospitality and hope!

We pursue spiritual growth through worship, prayer, study, and service. We seek personal holiness as we follow Jesus and practice spiritual disciplines. We also work for social holiness by serving our community with love. Our goal is to make the world around us a little more like the kingdom of God; to make earth look a little more like heaven.

While passionate, we United Methodists wrestle with questions humbly, remembering John Wesley's advice: "In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity." As good United Methodists we are diverse in how we see the world, and we believe that diversity is our strength. We find our unity in Christ as we joyfully pray, worship, and serve together! We affirm the sacred worth of all peoples and everyone's call to live faithfully.

The Bible inspires and shapes our faith and practice. We earnestly study Scripture and the world. As United Methodists, we participate in spiritual disciplines to systematically grow and transform the world as Christ did. Our "method" is love.
